Types of Entertainment
The Overlook Theatre Company provides a variety of entertainment to guests from in and around Franklin. Established in 1996, the group has performed a number of plays and musicals since that time, and also makes auditions open to everyone. Internships are available for those who wish to work behind the scenes providing costumes, lighting, or scenic artistry. Volunteer usher training is provided to those who are at least 18 years of age.
When not offering live performances, the center makes movie screenings available to the general public. The state-of-the-art center is an ideal place to take in a movie, with its surround sound and true Dolby HD/3D visualization. Family entertainment is a high priority of this performing arts center, so you can feel comfortable bringing along your children.
Tickets for most performances are available in advance at the box office or online. However, tickets for many movie screenings are available only at the door. Tickets are sold on a first-come, first-serve basis, and no refunds are available except in the case of a canceled performance.
The Smoky Mountain Center for the Performing Arts occasionally hosts free events. Seats for these events are also available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Doors generally open about an hour or so before show time.
A schedule of events is available on the performing arts center’s official website. We recommend checking that schedule often to see a list of upcoming performances. Doing so is a great way to enjoy a fun family outing or introduce out-of-town guests to the area. Visit soon and see why others remark that this is one of the best-kept secrets in Franklin.
